Bethany Bowden is the Assistant to the Director of Admissions. Raised in Kentucky, Ms. Bowden earned a B.S. in Organizational Communications at Murray State. She recognized a keen interest in counseling through courses at Murray State and continued graduate work in Community Counseling. Seeking a career in the helping profession, she worked in multiple areas of mental health including community programs, psychiatric hospitals and educational programs with a special interest in helping children who are behaviorally and intellectually challenged.

Ms. Bowden sought a position at Elk River Treatment Program when her husband accepted a job in Huntsville. The Direct Care position at the residential program allowed Beth to use her blend of education and work experience in the academic and mental health industry. “It was an eye-opening experience to see how many kids struggle with depression and anxiety due to trauma, grief and loss,” she said. Behaviors resulting from these issues are often challenging so self-control is an absolute requirement for Direct Care staff in a residential treatment program for at-risk teens.

Ms. Bowden's on-the-ground experience at Elk River has served as an advantage for parents who contact Elk River’s admissions department. “It is rewarding to provide guidance to families who come to us emotionally broken. Whether they decide to admit their child or not, we are here to listen, offer advice and provide direction.”
